ABOUT US
The Michigan Fiscal Responsibility Project and the MichiganTaxTruth Web site provide citizens, policymakers, elected officials and the media with accurate information about state government taxes and spending in Michigan. The Project helps audiences better understand the programs and services that are funded by state taxes and how those programs and services shape quality of life in Michigan.
The Michigan Fiscal Responsibility Project and Web site are proudly sponsored by the Michigan Nonprofit Association, Michigan League for Human Services, AARP Michigan, the Michigan Municipal League, and the Presidents Council, State Universities of Michigan. Members of these organizations provide Michigan’s most important and essential quality of life services for Michigan citizens. Project sponsors:
- Employ more than 430,000 Michigan residents, often ranking as the largest employers in their communities or counties.
- Provide police and fire protection, water, sewer and other municipal services to the 5.2 million Michigan residents who live in the state’s more than 500 cities and villages.
- Provide undergraduate and graduate educations to the 280,000 students in Michigan’s 15 public universities.
- Deliver health care to all Michigan residents regardless of ability to pay, including 1.1 million people with no health insurance, 1.5 million Medicare beneficiaries, 1.5 million Medicaid patients, and the millions of residents with private health insurance.
